كيف يتم التوظيف

SuperAnnotate recruits its experts through SME Careers (sme.careers), run by SME Solutions Inc.; SuperAnnotate’s own “apply as an expert” link leads there. You create one profile, then apply to individual jobs. For most jobs the first step is a recorded AI interview. Passing it makes you eligible for the role; a person then reviews your profile, and you join the network before any project invites you.

  1. Create an account at sme.careers and fill in the application form with your CV.
  2. Apply to jobs on the jobs page, one application per job.
  3. Take the AI interview for each job, about 15 minutes on video.
  4. Take a qualification exam if the role has one, then wait for the profile review and, for some roles, a short call with a recruiter.
  5. Onboard: sign a contract in Deel, verify your ID there, and verify your Discord account.
  6. Accept a project invitation and pass its paid bootcamp, then start work, tracked in the Insightful app and paid weekly through Deel.

Onboarding makes you eligible for projects; it doesn’t place you on one. SME Careers gives no fixed timeline for any step after the interview, and work depends on client demand.

Before you start

  • Where you live. Your country of residence must be one Deel supports. Countries it doesn’t support are greyed out on the form (“This country is not supported by Deel”) and can’t be chosen. Each job also lists the countries it is open in: on 2 November 2026 some specialist roles were open in the US only and some science roles in about 27 countries.
  • English and experience. Most roles sampled on 2 November 2026 asked for English at C1 level or above and two to five or more years of professional experience, or an advanced degree.
  • A desktop computer with an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, a camera, a microphone and headphones, for the interview. Phones aren’t recommended. Paid hours are tracked in the Insightful desktop app.
  • A government photo ID in the name on your account, for the ID check in Deel.
  • A Discord account, ideally with the same email as your SME Careers account.

SME Careers’ public pages give no minimum age and no rules on VPNs or second accounts. Your contractor agreement, signed in Deel, is where to check.

Creating your account

  1. Go to sme.careers/apply. Sign up with your email and a password of 8 or more characters, with an upper-case and a lower-case letter, a number and a special character. Or choose Continue with LinkedIn, which needs no separate email check; both sign-ins lead to the same account.
  2. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email. Check your spam folder; you can ask for a new code once every 2 minutes.
  3. Choose to join as a subject matter expert, the person who does the work. (Network Referrer is a separate partner account.)
  4. Fill in your personal details: first and last name, country of residence, highest education, native language, other languages, your skills from the list and, if asked, your expected hourly rate in US dollars. LinkedIn, a Job ID and a Partner ID are optional.
  5. Upload your CV, or type in your education and work history by hand.

If you started from a link to a job, that job stays attached to your application. Your email address and country of residence can’t be changed in your profile afterwards.

Your CV and profile

Project teams search profiles by skills, languages, education, country and rate, so an empty field means a missed match. SME Careers says a complete profile moves through screening faster.

The CV file

  • A PDF of no more than 5 MB.
  • SME Careers reads it to fill in your skills, experience and education. Check the result in your profile and correct it.

What SME Careers looks for

  • Expert knowledge shown in your CV, beyond job titles.
  • Specific skills: “Clinical pharmacology” rather than “medicine”.
  • Every education and work entry complete, with dates.
  • Your languages, each with its level.

The rest of the profile

The profile has tabs for Profile, Skills, Experience, Hourly Rate, Email Preferences, Account and Onboarding. Keep the “Interview reminders” and “Application updates” emails turned on while you have applications open.

Your hourly rate

SME Careers sets your rate from your experience, skills, location and market rates; you can’t set or edit it. The expected rate you enter on the form is only a starting point. Until the rate is set, the Hourly Rate tab says your profile is under review. A project can pay a different rate from your default one.

Applying to a job

The application form only creates your profile. You then apply to individual jobs on sme.careers/jobs: one application per job, and as many jobs as you like. A duplicate application is archived.

Each listing shows the title, the pay, the countries it is open in and, in its details, the interview language. Pay can be shown as “Up to $X/hr”, as a range, per month or per item, and isn’t always in US dollars. On 2 November 2026 the jobs page listed 264 open roles, and the monthly number of applicants per listing ran from 18 for a Dutch team-lead role to 4,956 for a customer-service role. Specialist roles get far fewer applicants than general ones.

After you apply, the status shows “Interview pending” with a Take Interview button. Jobs can be paused or closed after you apply (“This job is no longer available”).

The AI interview

A recorded, conversational video interview with an AI interviewer, planned for about 15 minutes plus a few minutes’ grace. It starts with a warm-up question, then asks about the skills the role needs. Most interviews are in English; some roles interview in another language, shown on the job and on the welcome page, and you answer in that language. You take it when it suits you.

What you need

  • A desktop computer with an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari. Phones aren’t recommended.
  • A quiet place, a steady connection and headphones, with the camera and microphone allowed in the browser.
  • Zoom, Slack and other apps closed.
  • To be signed in to the account you applied with. Each interview link works only for that account, and only once.

If you need another format, such as audio only, email [email protected] with the role and the reason before you start.

Before it starts

A technical check runs first. You then accept a consent notice: the interview is recorded, AI writes a summary and a first assessment, and people make the final decision. A passed recording may be reused to match you to later roles.

During the interview

  • Read the role description and responsibilities on the welcome page first.
  • Give concrete examples from your own experience; SME Careers says they count for more than general statements.
  • If you don’t know an answer, say so rather than guess.
  • The interviewer waits about 5 to 6 seconds after you stop speaking before it goes on.
  • A “Scheduled Interview Time” timer shows on screen. When it runs out it shows “Time exceeded” for a short while, so you can finish your answer.

“All interview slots are currently busy” means the system is full; try again later. SME Careers’ help pages describe no practice interview.

Your recording

SME Careers records the video (if your camera is on), the sound and a transcript, and your screen only if the interview has a technical exercise. It keeps them for up to 24 months, doesn’t use them to train AI models and doesn’t share them with clients. You can ask [email protected] to delete them, which it does within 30 days.

Interview results and retakes

Automated tools write a summary and a first assessment, and reviewers take part in the decision. Grading usually takes one to two business days, with the status “Interview under review”.

  • Passed: “Qualified for role”, and your profile goes on to review.
  • Needs Retake: “Retake available”.
  • Not Passed.
  • Incomplete: a technical problem stopped the interview, or you answered fewer than three questions. This doesn’t count as an attempt.
  • Archived: no attempts left after a fail, a withdrawn or duplicate application, or a closed role. An archived role doesn’t affect your others.

Retakes

You get one interview, plus one retake only if you’re offered it. More attempts happen “in rare cases” and aren’t automatic. There is no waiting period, but wait for your current result first. The limit is per job, so other jobs aren’t affected. Before a retake, re-read the job description, prepare specific examples, and check your microphone, connection and room.

Qualification exams

Some roles add a written or task-based exam. It appears only after you pass the AI interview; if none appears, the role probably has none. You take it on another platform, which SME Careers directs you to.

Some exams are paid and show as an “exam earning”. That pay comes only once your Deel contract is signed and your ID check approved, within about 10 days of the contract. SME Careers doesn’t publish the length, pass mark or retake rules for exams.

Profile review and recruiter call

Once you’re “Qualified for role”, the team checks your profile and CV against the role. For some roles you’re invited by email to a short interview with a recruiter. Missing that appointment without notice can end the process.

This stage has no fixed timeline and depends on the role and demand. Not every qualified candidate is matched straight away; your profile stays in the network for later roles. Keep your email to hand, keep your profile current and reply promptly.

Onboarding: contract, ID and Discord

If screening succeeds, an invitation to “Onboard into our network” arrives by email and as a banner on your dashboard, offering you the role of Data Trainer. Three steps under Profile, Onboarding must all be done before any work:

  1. Request your contract and sign the independent contractor agreement. The email from Deel arrives within minutes.
  2. Verify your ID in Deel with a government photo ID and a selfie. Nothing goes to SME Careers directly. It usually takes minutes; a manual review can take up to 3 business days. Blurry photos, an expired ID and a name that doesn’t match your account are the common reasons for rejection.
  3. Verify Discord, by signing in with Discord or, after joining the server, entering your Discord User ID (17 to 19 digits).

The contract shows as Active only once your ID is verified; allow 3 to 4 business days. If your ID shows “Expiring soon” or “Expired”, submit it again.

Project invitations and the bootcamp

Project invitations appear under Projects, Pending Invites, with the project’s hourly rate and an expiry date (for example “Expires in 5 days”). An expired invitation can’t be accepted, though support can send it again. Your Discord account must be verified first.

  • Accepting may mean ticking the project’s own terms and conditions.
  • If the places are full, you can join the waiting list (“On the Waitlist”) or decline. Declining or withdrawing carries no penalty.

The bootcamp

Most projects start with a paid bootcamp: you learn the guidelines and tools and do training tasks that the project team reviews. It is scored against the project’s quality bar, and the criteria and pass mark vary by project. If you pass, your status becomes “Onboarded” (sometimes “Qualified” first) and you move to production work. If you don’t, you leave that project only and stay eligible for others.

Production work

You work as an annotator, a QA reviewer or in another role on the SuperAnnotate platform. Your project’s Discord channel, SuperAnnotate, Google documents and Insightful are set up for you at each stage. If you hold more than one role on a project, each uses its own sign-in address, such as jane+qa@…. A project can pause your place (your access stops but your history and seat are kept) or go on hold as a whole.

AI tools and conduct

In the interview, don’t use Google, ChatGPT, notes or any other outside source. SME Careers says this is detectable and leads to disqualification, and the recording is reviewed with automated and manual checks.

Once you’re working

AI tools that a project’s instructions don’t explicitly permit count as unproductive time, which isn’t paid. Gemini and Perplexity are acceptable only where the project clearly allows them. Follow each project’s tool policy.

  • Random checks of tracked time can look at screenshots, screen recordings and the websites you visited.
  • Work from a single device: a timer running on two gives wrong records.
  • You can be removed from a project for repeated work below its quality bar or for breaking the rules. Removal is for that project only, except for serious breaches, which can affect your standing across the whole platform.

Emails about your account as a whole come from [email protected]. If you think one is a mistake, reply to it.

Pay, tax and hours

  • When: weekly. Work from Monday to Sunday is paid the following Friday. Earnings are reviewed (Pending, Under review, then Approved, Rejected or On Hold), and only approved earnings are paid. The money usually reaches you one to three days after it is sent to Deel, depending on how you withdraw it.
  • How: through Deel, to whichever withdrawal method you set up in your Deel account.
  • What is paid: project work, paid exams and referrals. A change to a project’s rate is an increase and applies from the next day; the Pay rate history table shows it.
  • Tax: SME Careers says tax and regulatory compliance for your country is handled through Deel. It doesn’t name a tax form.
  • Time tracking: hourly projects and bootcamps use the Insightful desktop app (also called Workpuls), which you’re invited to by email. Sign in with that email and use only the Time Tracking tab; on a Mac it needs screen-recording and other permissions. Only start and stop the timer; don’t change task statuses in Insightful.
  • What Insightful records: while the timer runs, the apps and websites you use, screenshots, screen recordings and time per task. Nothing is recorded with it off.
  • Paid time: active time only. Idle time (no keyboard or mouse for over 2 minutes) and unproductive time (social media, YouTube, Spotify, AI tools the project doesn’t permit) aren’t paid.
  • Forgotten timer: only an admin can add missed time, and time with tracking off and no work submitted usually can’t be added.
  • Hours: listings say “Set your own hours”. SME Careers publishes no minimum or maximum.

Questions about pay go to [email protected] within 14 days of the pay date, with the project, the dates, the amount you expected and received, and your Insightful hours.

Why applications stall

SME Careers publishes no typical time from passing the interview to first paid work. The reasons its own pages give for applications going no further:

  • an interview not passed, with no attempts left;
  • outside help in the interview, which disqualifies you;
  • an interview link opened from another account (“We couldn’t find this interview for your account”);
  • an incomplete profile, which misses matches;
  • a recruiter call missed without notice;
  • an ID check rejected for a name that doesn’t match, blur or an expired ID;
  • Discord not verified, which blocks accepting invitations;
  • a project invitation left to expire, or a bootcamp not passed;
  • qualifying when no project needs you: openings depend on active projects.

What applicants report

The most repeated complaint is hearing nothing after passing the AI interview: about three separate reports from 2024 to 2026, on Trustpilot and in a Reddit discussion that mentions waits of about six weeks second-hand. On Trustpilot, reviews from October 2026 describe a delayed bootcamp start and removal from a project after the bootcamp without explanation, and three reviewers of SuperAnnotate describe hours paid in part or not at all, while one reports pay on time. Two reviewers mention a writing test and a timed Excel test. These are a handful of reports, not a measure of how often it happens; most reviews of SuperAnnotate on Trustpilot are from customers of its software.

Official addresses and scams

  • The sites are sme.careers, its help pages on docs.sme.careers, and superannotate.com. Its LinkedIn page is linkedin.com/company/sme-careers.
  • Email addresses: [email protected] for general questions, [email protected] for pay, and [email protected] for notices about your account only. Write from the address you signed up with. Project questions go in the project’s Discord channel, and questions about Deel withdrawals to Deel’s support.
  • The other companies you’ll hear from are Deel (contract and ID check), Insightful (time tracking) and Discord.
  • The interview only ever starts from your own Applications page or the invitation email, while you’re signed in.
  • None of the steps in SME Careers’ help pages involves paying anything; your pay comes to you through Deel.
