كيف يتم التوظيف
micro1 recruits experts for AI companies. You apply to one role at a time, and every application includes a live voice interview with Zara, micro1’s AI recruiter. If you meet the interview’s criteria, you are “certified” in the skills it tested and join a pool of certified experts. Hiring managers choose people from that pool for client projects, which micro1 calls pipelines.
- Find a role on the Opportunities Portal at jobs.micro1.ai and apply with your email, Google or LinkedIn.
- Answer the screening questions, if the listing has them.
- Take the AI interview with Zara, a recorded voice interview with your camera on.
- Get certified: complete your profile and verify your ID.
- Wait for a hiring manager, which can take up to 30 days and isn’t guaranteed to lead to work.
- Accept an offer: sign the contract in Deel, pass the Deel KYC check and a KarmaCheck background check, then join the project.
Certification makes you eligible for work; it does not guarantee it. The work includes expert evaluations of AI models, recording everyday physical tasks for robotics, and evaluations of AI agents used by businesses. A pipeline lasts as long as the client has work.

Before you start
- Where you live. micro1 hires worldwide except people who live in Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macao, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela or Yemen. A listing can be narrower: one current role is for people based in the United States with a bachelor’s degree.
- Your age. You must be 18 or over.
- A computer with a camera and microphone, a quiet room and a stable connection for the interview. micro1 doesn’t supply a laptop; you use your own equipment.
- Your passport, driving licence or national ID card, unexpired and the physical document, in the same legal name you apply with.
- No conflicting job. The expert agreement asks you to confirm you are not currently employed by a company that builds foundation AI models.

Applying and creating your account
Your account is created when you apply to your first role.
- Go to the Opportunities Portal, from micro1.ai/experts/opportunities or at jobs.micro1.ai. Each listing shows the pay range, the skills needed, the type of role, the location and “How the selection process works”.
- Choose a role and apply with your email address, or with Continue with Google or Continue with LinkedIn. Continuing means you accept micro1’s Candidate Terms and Candidate Privacy Policy.
- Give your accurate name and email address.
- Answer the screening questions, if the listing has them, then take the interview.
- Follow your applications on the talent dashboard at talent.micro1.ai/dashboard. You sign in at talent.micro1.ai/login.
One listing describes its process as: apply, answer the screening questions, interview, profile review, presented to the client, then contacted by micro1’s Talent Ops team for onboarding.
The account is yours alone. The candidate terms forbid sharing your sign-in, passing the account to someone else, pretending to be someone else, and using scripts or scraping.

Your profile and skills
micro1 says its interview judges what you can do, not your CV, and that earlier AI experience is not required. Its own advice for being matched to work:
- Certify in several skills. Each extra certified skill widens the range of projects you can be matched to.
- Describe your work exactly. micro1 compares “Assessed clinical note accuracy for a medical triage tool” with the vaguer “reviewed AI outputs”.
- Set a reasonable starting rate to build a track record faster, and raise it later.
- Keep your profile current, with detailed descriptions of your experience, and update your availability in your profile settings.

The AI interview with Zara
Zara asks open-ended questions in real time and you answer aloud, as you would with a person. The questions are based on the skills set for the role, and no two candidates get the same ones. The interview is recorded so that micro1’s human recruiters can review the results and match candidates to roles. You can take it at any time.
Length
micro1’s pages disagree. The help library says 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the number of skills, about seven minutes for each. A current listing says 15 to 30 minutes at most, and micro1 says it is making interviews shorter. Allow 40 minutes.
The questions
- open-ended technical questions about the role;
- scenario questions on how you think and communicate;
- a coding challenge, for technical roles;
- a human-data exercise, for annotator roles.
micro1 publishes example questions for some roles, such as Full-Stack Developer and Physics AI Trainer, on micro1.ai/interview-questions.
What you need
- A quiet place, a stable connection and your camera on. micro1 asks you to treat it like a professional interview.
- For technical assessments, screen sharing: micro1 collects screen recordings for these.
micro1 may record your answers, audio, video and what you do on the platform. It uses proctoring tools to check the interview’s integrity and gives each interview a proctoring score.
Practice
micro1’s free Interview Prep tool gives an 18-minute AI practice interview for a position you choose, with feedback afterwards. micro1 also suggests picking one core skill or type of job to prepare for.
Results and feedback
- At the end you see whether you met micro1’s certification criteria. The dashboard may show “Under review” for up to 48 hours.
- If you didn’t qualify, open that application on your dashboard to ask for detailed feedback by email: what went well and what to improve.
- Skills you certified in an interview since July 2025 are not tested again. A role marked “Fast-Track” skips the interview; “Partial interview” covers only the skills you haven’t certified yet.
- micro1 publishes no rule on retakes or waiting periods.
If you have seen an interview question before, the candidate terms ask you to tell micro1.

Certified skills and ID verification
Once certified, you are in micro1’s certified talent pool. You can be invited to pipelines, you can still apply to roles yourself, and you get the Certified Experts Community and the talent dashboard.
- Complete your profile.
- Verify your ID with micro1’s outside provider; micro1 says it never sees or stores your documents. Scan your passport, driving licence or national ID card with your device’s camera. It must be the original, unexpired document: digital IDs and photos of a screen are refused. Then take a selfie in good light, against an empty background, without glasses.
- Get your micro1 certificate and join the pool.
The name on your ID must match the legal name on your application. IDs in English or Arabic are usually verified within minutes; IDs in other languages may need a manual review of up to 72 hours. For help, write to [email protected].
This is the first of two ID checks. The second is a KYC check in Deel when you are onboarded to a project.

Hiring manager review
After certification your application usually shows “Hiring manager reviewing”: you did well, you are in the vetted pool, and a person is choosing the best fit for the project. This can take up to 30 days and is not a promise of work. micro1 says there is no fixed timeline.
Dashboard statuses
- Under review: up to 48 hours after the interview.
- Did not qualify: below the certification criteria for that role.
- Hiring on hold: the role is paused.
- Selected or Not selected. Not selected means you did well and may be considered later.
- Application incomplete: the role closed before you took the interview.
- Also Interview pending, Awaiting next steps and Not interested.
While you wait, micro1 suggests keeping your profile current, certifying more skills and keeping your availability up to date. You are invited as relevant roles open, and you can keep applying yourself. If you aren’t matched straight away, your profile stays active for later roles; you can also delete it.

AI tools and conduct
Your interview answers must be your own work, without help from anyone or anything else, unless the interviewer or the instructions allow it. The interview content is confidential: don’t copy it or take screenshots. micro1 uses interview results for quality checks “to prevent and detect cheating”.
Breaking the candidate terms can lead to an immediate, temporary or permanent loss of access to the platform, and micro1 may report it to prospective employers.
Once you’re working
- Each pipeline’s instructions are, in micro1’s words, the “source of truth”. Its help pages give no general rule on AI tools during paid work, so follow those instructions.
- Your work is tracked for quality scores, time per task and how well you follow the guidelines. Peer reviewers, micro1’s operations team and sometimes the client review it. Your pipeline lead contacts you if your work needs to improve.
- Confidentiality covers the client’s name too. On LinkedIn you may describe the type of work and the field, but never the client, pipeline names, screenshots, prompts or where the work was done.

Offers and onboarding
If you are selected, micro1 emails you the next steps. Sign in to the talent portal with your personal email and accept or decline the offer. Declining has no effect on later offers. Once you accept, an onboarding checklist opens. Most of it you do yourself, and its tooltips show how long each step usually takes. You can raise support tickets from inside the portal.
- Sign the contract in Deel. The email’s subject is “it’s time to sign your contract”.
- Accept the invitations that follow: Slack (with a welcome message from Zara), a micro1 expert email address (Google Workspace), the work platform, Hubstaff for hourly contracts, and KarmaCheck.
- Background check through KarmaCheck. Its emails are real and the check is required; complete it promptly. Another pipeline may ask for it again.
- KYC in Deel. Payments aren’t processed until it is done.
- Complete your Deel profile. Onboarding is finished when it shows 100%, and you are then added to the project. You learn the client’s name only at this point.
Onboarding can be fast: one listing onboarded people over a weekend for a project starting on the Monday.
Before your first tasks
Read the pipeline instructions, watch the training videos, do any sample tasks and pass the pipeline’s qualification, such as a quiz or test tasks. Some pipelines let you start straight away. micro1 doesn’t say whether this time is paid.
The expert agreement
- You are an independent contractor and use your own equipment; any special tools are provided free.
- What you produce is “work for hire”: you don’t keep the rights to it. You keep everything confidential, including who the client is, and a one-year non-solicitation clause applies.
- micro1 can end the agreement at once by written notice, and at once for a breach of confidentiality, gross negligence or fraud. You give five business days’ notice.
- Disputes go to arbitration with JAMS, and class actions are excluded.
- The agreement has a standard clause on biometric data, but most text projects need no voice, video or biometric recording.
Between projects
When a pipeline closes, micro1 tries to move you to a similar one. Working on two pipelines at once needs both pipeline leads to agree. Slack is only open while you are on a project; between projects, join micro1’s Discord from the Quick links in the talent portal.

Pay, tax and hours
- When: twice a month, in US dollars. Work from the 1st to the 15th is paid around the 20th; work from the 16th to the end of the month around the 5th. Work is approved around the 3rd and the 18th, and the email “Your contractor submission is approved” arrives a few days before the money. Dates follow Pacific time; US contractors may wait one more business day, and weekends and US bank holidays move payment to the next business day. (One micro1 guide says “biweekly”; the help library and the Expert Support Program say twice a month.)
- How: through Deel, at payroll.micro1.ai. Upload every document Deel asks for and choose the right country, or payment is delayed. You can add a business entity after signing. Don’t sign a second Deel contract under a different email address.
- Pay types: hourly, for approved tracked hours; pay per task, your hourly rate times a “Project Payout Multiple” for each approved task, however long it took; or a flat fee for each approved task, with nothing for rejected or unfinished work. The multiple or fee is in your contract’s special clauses.
- Tax: you are an independent contractor. Tax forms such as the US 1099-NEC are in Deel, under Finance, Tax Forms.
- Time tracking: hourly work is tracked in the Hubstaff desktop app. Sign up with your micro1 expert email and track only while you are working on the pipeline. Hubstaff hours go to Deel each pay period.
- Hours: part-time and flexible, usually about 15 to 20 hours a week depending on the client, more when work is available. You can keep a day job.
Each listing shows its own pay. micro1’s guide gives these general ranges: general annotation $15–40 an hour, prompt writing and model evaluation $20–60, review by specialists in a field $50–100, and frontier expert projects $100–200 or more.
Expert Support Program
Since October 2026 micro1 shows the pay rate before you accept work, lets you decline without penalty and gives you a right of appeal. Experts paid in at least four pay periods in a quarter also get quarterly “rest credits” of about 1%, with a minimum of $75.

Why applications stall
micro1 says there is no fixed timeline, and certification is eligibility for work, not a placement. Whether you get work depends on what projects need and when. The reasons its own pages give for applications going nowhere:
- “Did not qualify”: below the certification criteria for that role (ask for the feedback);
- “Application incomplete”: the interview not taken before the role closed;
- certified, but no project yet that fits your skills and availability;
- an ID check delayed by a name that doesn’t match your application, a cropped or badly lit document, or an ID in a language other than English or Arabic;
- payment held up by missing Deel documents, the wrong country or an unfinished KYC check.
What micro1 says helps: certify more skills, describe your experience exactly, set a reasonable starting rate and follow the rubrics closely. On a project, ask questions after your first task rather than doing fifty the wrong way, check Slack every day and apply the instructions the same way each time.
What applicants report
micro1 has a high rating on Trustpilot, but many recent five-star reviews are short, come from accounts with a single review and were posted close together, and micro1 invites reviews. Recent reviewers mostly describe Zara as natural and patient; one mentions a repeated question and one a timer running out during network trouble. A few say they are still waiting for work after certification, and one review from December 2025 describes several interviews and certification followed by no contact. These are a handful of reports, not a measure of how often it happens.
