Data in demand

AI models are trained on real working material, most of which is not available on the public web. Buyers typically look for:

Support tickets and chats Customer enquiries and the responses given. Used to train AI assistants.
Email and internal messages Email, Slack, Teams and calendars, showing how work is coordinated.
Sales and CRM records Deals, notes and follow-ups, showing how sales work is carried out.
Finance and accounting records Invoices, ledgers, forecasts and month-end close.
Code repositories Source code with its commit history, reviews and bug fixes.
Documents, wikis and procedures Guides, policies and internal notes written by employees.
Screen and workflow recordings Recordings of tasks carried out in software or on site. Used to train AI systems that operate computers.
Call recordings and transcripts Recorded conversations, preferably across several languages or accents.
Specialist records Medical, legal, financial, engineering or scientific material.
Tests and evaluations Question banks, marked answers and checklists.

Factors affecting value: your company’s records are worth more based on quantity, years on record, specialism, languages and organisation, and most of all when no one else holds the same material.

Eligibility

Trading companies A copy of the records can be licensed while the business continues to operate.
Closed or closing companies Historical records retain value. A former director, a liquidator or the purchaser of the assets may be entitled to license them.
Freelance developers Code owned outright, along with its history, can also be licensed.

Before licensing

Points to check before signing. This list does not constitute legal advice, and independent advice should be obtained.

  • Ownership or the right to license. Customer and supplier contracts should be checked, along with any rights retained by employees or contractors.
  • Personal data. Names, email addresses, telephone numbers and other identifying details must be removed, or a lawful basis for sharing them established under UK GDPR or GDPR.
  • Confidential material. Trade secrets, passwords, keys and anything covered by a confidentiality agreement must be excluded.
  • Deal terms. Licence or sale, exclusivity, duration, permitted uses and any right to pass the data on.
  • Secure transfer. Transfer by a method the buyer provides, never by email attachment, with a record kept of what was sent.

Requests for the full data before a contract is signed, or for a fee to value it, should be treated with caution. Samples are commonly reviewed under an NDA. Payment terms are set out in the contract.

Licensing company data: common questions

Is the data sold or licensed?

Usually licensed. The buyer pays to use a copy and the company retains ownership. Terms vary by buyer, including the number of payments, exclusivity and duration.

How is the data valued?

Value depends on the type and volume of the data, how specialist it is and whether similar data exists elsewhere. Buyers price each case separately. Published figures appear in each buyer’s entry.

How long does it take?

It varies by buyer. Mercor states 2 to 4 weeks after signing, Ooak Data 2 to 4 weeks and Mode about 3 months. Preparing the data and removing personal details can add further time.

Is there a charge?

aitrainers.jobs makes no charge. Buyers that pay it a referral fee are marked. Some buyers deduct their own fees, as shown in their entries.

Can a closed company license its records?

Often, provided someone retains the right to deal with them, such as a former director, a liquidator or the purchaser of the assets.

What about personal data?

Personal details must be removed, or a lawful basis for using them established, before any transfer. Responsibility remains with the company. Independent legal advice should be obtained.

Can freelance developers take part?

Yes. Some buyers license code from individuals, provided the individual owns it and no employer or client holds rights in it.
