Reviews short English voice recordings against their scripts, catching misread numbers, letters and symbols and noting accent or audio problems. Suits detail-minded native American English speakers who can work flexibly on a laptop or desktop.
About the role
We are recruiting reviewers for a paid audio review project focused on alphanumeric speech. You will listen to English voice recordings one by one and check whether each speaker read the given script accurately, word for word.
This is not a recording task. For each recording, you see the script the speaker was asked to read. You listen to the audio, compare it with the script, and flag anything that doesn’t match. The scripts are full of alphanumeric content, such as numbers, letters, codes, prices, dates, phone numbers, and spoken symbols like “dash”, “dot” and “hash”. You’ll need to catch even small differences, like “fifteen” vs. “fifty”, a swapped digit, a wrong letter, or a missing symbol. You’ll also flag recordings where the speaker clearly doesn’t sound like a native speaker of the target accent. Clear guidelines and examples are provided before you start.
Your participation will include:
- Listening to each recording and comparing it with the script, word for word
- Flagging misread, skipped, added or swapped words, numbers, letters and symbols
- Flagging speakers whose accent clearly doesn’t match the target accent (e.g. a non-American accent in an American English project)
- Noting basic audio issues, such as background noise, cut-off audio or missing silence at the start or end
- Working online through our review platform, on a flexible schedule
- Completing a paid qualification test before starting
You must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Be a native speaker of American English, currently living in the US
- Have excellent attention to detail, especially with numbers, letters and symbols
- Be able to recognize when a speaker is not a native American English speaker
- Be able to tell the difference between a regional accent and an actual misreading
- Use a laptop or desktop computer
- Use headphones during review sessions
- Have a stable internet connection
- Work from a quiet place where you can focus
Experience with transcription, audio QA, proofreading or data annotation is a plus.
Phones and tablets cannot be used for reviewing.
Compensation: $10-20/hr
