Assessment content
Assessments are written or multiple-choice forms, AI interviews, and for some roles a cognitive or task-based assessment. The AI interview asks role-specific questions, usually takes about 20 minutes, and can be technical or test language or reasoning.

Preparing for the assessment
- Use a computer with a working camera and microphone, take the interview somewhere quiet, use headphones if you can, and have pen and paper (and a calculator if relevant). A free practice interview is available. (talent.docs.mercor.com)
- AI tools: Unless an assessment says otherwise, you may not use AI or LLM tools to generate responses, copy external content, or collaborate; LLMs may only be used for grammar and wording checks. (talent.docs.mercor.com)

- You are notified by email when your application moves to the next stage or a final decision is made; Mercor does not share individual feedback, scores or interview recordings through support. (talent.docs.mercor.com)
- Retakes: Most assessments allow only one submission. An AI interview can be retaken up to three times across all applications that use it; a retake resets your application progress and hiring managers can see your retake count. (talent.docs.mercor.com)

Checks before paid work
- ID check: Mandatory government ID and selfie-video check through Persona before project onboarding, usually repeated for each new offer
- Paid work trial: Some roles use a work trial before an offer. It is paid at a fixed amount whether or not you are selected, and only one trial is paid.
- Background check: A background check through Zinc or Certn is required before you are onboarded to a project

You must live in a country where Mercor can pay through Stripe Connect or Wise. Mercor cannot onboard experts or issue contracts in unsupported locations, which include China, Russia, Pakistan, Kenya, Ukraine, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico.
